When it comes to cleaning up after a fire in a Rancho Cucamonga home, a much-loved dishes set can be something a homeowner has their heart set on using again. There are some factors to consider before the dinnerware can get reused, such as:
If the dishware absorbed heat, it could contain fine cracks that may not be visible before cleaning, so there is no way to predict the outcome until the piece gets cleaned
Dishes covered in greasy, wet smoke residues have a great possibility of stress cracks due to the high heat of this type of fire
Crystal and china are delicate and get gentle cleaning by hand as the acidic nature of the soot can etch the surface
Off-site ultrasonic immersion cleaning
Smoke particles can get removed through the use of canned (compressed) air or a soft brush

Removing water from horizontal surfaces discloses the location of many hidden spots where water remains left inside walls and other enclosed areas. When water slowly seeps out of hollow wall spaces, it collects alongside the joint between wall and floor. We prefer to help drainage happen faster by drilling a few weep holes.
While we have the baseboards removed, we also drill a hole large enough for the flexible tubing of our Inject dry system. We use this machine to force dry air into enclosed spaces because our air movers alone cannot reach into these areas as effectively as needed. We measure the moisture in the air as it exits, letting us determine when the interior reaches dry conditions as well as using moisture meters to determine the moisture content of other materials.

Hot Water and Dish Soap - Boil some hot water and mix in a few tablespoons of dish soap. Then slowly pour the mixture down the drain. The hot water will help to liquefy the clog, and the soap will help it to slide down the drain.
Vinegar and Baking Soda - The vinegar is an acidic chemical and baking soda is a natural cleansing product. Mix these two ingredients over the clogged drain. The mixture will fizz. Let the mixture sit overnight. In the morning, flush the drain with hot water.

Candles are a great way of creating a romantic and inviting atmosphere in your home. However, a misplaced elbow is often all it takes for your romantic night to turn into a disaster. After the fire has been put out, you may find your room covered in residues and soot that can produce strong unpleasant odors. Fire residues and odors are notoriously difficult to remove, so it is recommended you contact professionals with experience cleaning up fire damage.
When SERVPRO of South Rancho Cucamonga crews arrive at your property, they can begin removing and discarding severely damaged pieces of furniture, scorched upholstery, and charred structural sections. Fires typically coat all nearby surfaces in soot particles and residues. Residues can stick to upholstery and hard surfaces and can be powdery or sticky. To ensure that we don't further damage your home, our fire and smoke damage technicians (FST) can carefully inspect each affected surface to determine the best cleaning methods.
Dry residues can be removed with simple scrubbing and usually do not require the application of cleaning agents. Sticky residues, on the other hand, require intense scrubbing and the application of cleaning agents. We can utilize dry cleaning methods on more delicate surfaces to avoid accidental stains or damage.
To combat the strong odors caused by fire, our teams can deploy hydroxyl generators that can filter out soot particles and smoke from the air inside your home. If we find that filtering your air has not fully removed the smell, we can use deodorizers to neutralize odor particles in hard to reach places.
The type of water saturating the carpets in your home will play a significant role in how SERVPRO handles the cleanup. No matter the kind of flooding you have, we have proven methods to leave everything “Like it never even happened.”
When your carpet is involved means determining the best way to proceed. We break down water contamination into three categories:
Category 1 water is clean, often coming from your plumbing or supply line
Category 2 water is dirty, coming from appliances like a dishwasher, water heater, or washing machine
Category 3 water is contaminated, often coming from sewage, outdoor flooding, and more
Keep in mind that any water sitting for too long can become dirty and create bacterial wrought fester. We get to work fast using our extraction equipment, pumps, and vacuums to pull up as much water as possible. Whether or not our technicians can salvage your carpet will depend on several critical factors, including:
The age of the carpeting and padding below
The type of installation
The category of water that has come into contact with it
And other essential factors unique to the situation
You should not be surprised to know that mold is pretty common.
Alternaria
Alternaria spreads quickly from the outdoors and usually enters the house through poor ventilation or HVAC units. It also grows under sinks where the pipes leak, and it spreads quickly throughout a home.
Aureobasidium
If you see "pink" mold, it's usually Aureobasidium. It grows on virtually all surfaces, including wallpaper and painted surfaces.
Botrytis
Usually found in bathrooms without ventilation, Botrytis requires a lot of moisture and humidity.
Chaetomium
Commonly found on drywall, Chaetomium has a decidedly musty smell.
Cladosporium
This mold can grow in colder temperatures and often prefers fabrics, carpets, and wood surfaces.
Penicillium
This type of mold grows anywhere that may have been damaged by water (especially carpets, wallpaper, or mattresses). It's usually blue or green. We all know the petri dish story.
Stachybotrys chartarum
Traditionally called "black mold," this nasty, slimy mold grows anywhere its damp (and stays damp). Stachybotrys has a particularly musty odor that makes it easy to identify.
Serpula lacrymans
Usually, if your wood is rotting out, it's because of Serpula lacrymans. It's yellow in color.
Trichoderma
This hardy variety of mold grows on carpets, wallpapers, and wet surfaces. Trichoderma should be taken very seriously.
Ulocladium
These types of fungi rely on water to grow, so it's usually found in flooded homes. It's usually found on the walls.

The microscopic spores reproduce quickly, attacking organic material. Left alone, they could spread among rooms, creating a major sanitation..
-Household Cleaners like bleach won’t do the job.
-Organisms can permeate into porous objects, digging in quite deep. Sprays and liquid chemicals may not reach the entire contamination, leaving the surface looking better but not eliminating the mold and it will eventually return to the same area.
- In nature, the spores eat away at logs and branches. Inside, this is troubling as the organisms could feed off of paper, drywall, ceiling tiles and some flooring. When that happens, mold remediationshould occur, tearing out absorbent items that show infestation.
-Mold can't spread without water. It is the essential ingredient; thus, strive to keep flood exposure and humidity levels low. Run fans and the air handler. Wipe up spills immediately.
Make sure to work with mold remediationprofessionalswhen you detect mold in your home.
If your building was constructed with modern building materials, fire damage should be a rare occurrence. But it can still happen if you’re not careful. Make sure all smoking materials are safely extinguished before leaving work each day. A smoldering cigarette can ignite more easily than you think. Also, make sure to regularly inspect your smoke alarms, carbon monoxide detectors, and fire suppression systems to ensure they’re working properly. If a smoke alarm goes off for no reason at all, make sure to replace or recharge its batteries immediately.
Automatic Fire Detection & Fire Extinguishing Systems, this shows that one of the most important steps you can take towards protecting your office building from fire damage is to install and maintain automatic detection and fire extinguishing systems.
Camera monitoring systems would be best for large-scale commercial properties.
When it comes to electrical distribution and lighting equipment, there is a multitude of reasons why fire may start. Faulty outlets or appliances, light fixtures, extension cords, space heaters, and wiring issues were the 5 most common electrical fire causes.
To prevent faulty outlet or wiring fire hazards, the first step is to make sure to have a certified electrical contractor or property inspector review your commercial property before purchase. Even if you or a tenant are already occupying your commercial office space, a proper inspection by a certified electrical contractor to ensure code compliance of all building materials and installations will protect you from potentially expensive fire repairs.
-Assess the Damage You should never enter your home immediately following a flood or while flood water is still standing. Call a restoration company to assess the damage for you. These service professionals can also start mitigation efforts to save anything that can be salvaged.
- Dry What You Can Once you're cleared to re-enter the home, anything that needs to be saved needs to be dried as soon as possible. Perhaps the biggest risk following a home flood is the potential for mold growth. Mold is everywhere and it is always waiting to find a moist environment to grow. This growth can occur in as little as 24 hours. It's possible you're going to have to let some things go during this phase of the cleanup. Home materials such as flooring and some dry wall will have to be replaced. Experiencing a home flood is never easy, no matter how major or minor the damage. Things will be lost, but most things can be replaced. Always be familiar with your insurance policy so you know what to expect if you do experience flood damage.
The first thing you as a homeowner can do is preventing the flooding from getting any worse. You will need to shut off the main water line. After you do so, you still need to drain the pipes of all water. This will require you to run every sink and flush each toilet in your house at least once. You will also need to turn off your home’s water heater. Once there is no running tap water left, the leak should stop entirely.
Inspect the Damage
Next, you will need to locate the burst pipes. If you are able to find the broken pipe, then you should take pictures of the damage for insurance purposes. If you cannot find the source, then you will need to bring in a professional crew as soon as possible.
It is always a good idea to call a professional team to take care of any water damage just to be safe. There is a lot of remediation that needs to take place, such as drying any damaged structures and preventing mold growth. Professionals also know how to safely work around water.
Mold is a common issue in the humid climate or any room that holds humidity like bathrooms do. Knowing what to look for and how to handle a mold problem are the first steps.
Mold releases tiny spores in order to reproduce. These tiny spores can become airborne when disturbed and settle on surfaces where they lie dormant for extended periods waiting for ideal growth conditions.
The settled spores require three conditions to grow:
Food source: Organic materials
Temperature: 68-86 degrees
Moisture: Relative humidity above 60%
Spores can germinate after only 12 hours in some conditions. They more commonly germinate in the 24-48 hour range.
What is Mold?
Mold is a fungus, a multicellular plant-like organism that does not produce chlorophyll as plants do. Fungi include mildew, mushrooms and yeast.
Fungi are everywhere and we breathe mold spores every day. In normal doses, typical of outdoors, fungi are not a threat to human health and may even have positive effects.
Molds ripen cheeses and give them flavor. Some mushrooms are deliciously good to eat. Yeasts cause fermentation that produce alcoholic beverages and some breads.
Once you suspect mold contact SERVPRO of South Rancho Cucamonga to remediate your mold contamination.

1.Keep your grill at least 10 feet away from your house. This includes portions attached to your house like carports, garages and porches. Grills should not be used underneath wooden overhangs either.
2.Clean your grill regularly. If you allow grease and fat to build up on your grill, they provide more fuel for a fire. Grease is a major source of flare ups.
3.Check for gas leaks. You can make sure no gas is leaking from your gas grill by making a solution of half liquid dish soap and half water and rubbing it on the hoses and connections. Then, turn the gas on (with the grill lid open.) If the soap forms large bubbles, that's a sign that the hoses have tiny holes or that the connections are not tight enough.
4.Keep a spray bottle of water handy. That way, if you have a minor flare-up you can spray it with the water to instantly calm it. The bonus of this tip is that water won't harm your food, so dinner won't be ruined!
5.Keep a fire extinguisher within a couple steps of your grill. And KNOW HOW TO USE IT. If you are unsure how to use the extinguisher, don't waste time fiddling with it before calling 911. Firefighters say many fire deaths occur when people try to fight a fire themselves instead of calling for expert help and letting the fire department do its job.
Don't -
7.Turn on the gas while your grill lid is closed. NEVER do this. It causes gas to build up inside your grill, and when you do light it and open it, a fireball can explode in your face.
8.Leave a grill unattended.
9.Use a grill indoors. People often think it will be safe to use a grill, especially a small one, indoors. NOT TRUE.
In case the you experience a house fire, call your local fire department immediately. Be sure to contact a fire damage restoration company to cleanup and repair any damage to your home occurs.

Tips for Keeping Your Home Safe During Cold Weather Days.
When outside is cold you feel like being warm and cozy in your home. Warming yourself near a space heater feels good, but is it a smart choice? A burned space heater is one of the top causes of residential fires, particularly during the winter months. Learn how to safely use a space heater by following the tips below.
1. Space heaters come with options for safety features, such as an automatic shut off if the unit overheats or tips over. Ensure the appliance has a sturdy cord that is at least 6 feet in length.
2. Place the heater on a hard surface, such as the floor. Do not place it in a child’s bedroom or play area or in a garage where incendiary materials are stored. Use the 3-foot distance rule for children, pets, walls, bedding, curtains and furniture. Allow this distance from flammable fabrics to prevent a burned space heater from setting fire to your home.
Mitigation involves preventing damage from worsening before the affected area can be restored, water damage can lead to serious problems at a commercial building. Follow these four steps to address the cause of water damage and complete pipe burst cleanup.
1. Fix the Cause
Water damage will worsen until the cause is fixed. If a pipe breaks or you notice a supply line leaking, shut off the water supply and gather as much water as possible. This will limit the amount of moisture that soaks into building materials and contents.
2. Remove Standing Water
After the problem is solved, empty containers and eliminate all standing water. A building owner may want to contact a water cleanup and damage restoration service. Professionals can use a pump to get rid of every trace of water and complete pipe burst cleanup more quickly than is possible with consumer-grade equipment.
3. Clean If Necessary
A supply line burst or leak is likely to involve clean, treated Category One water. Cleaning may not be necessary if you act quickly. Category One water can degrade to Category Two if left standing for 48 hours or longer. Disinfection is necessary for damage caused by contaminated Category Two or Category Three water.
4. Dry and Restore
Once all standing water is gone, it is time to dry the affected area. Cleanup professionals may use air movers, fans, or dehumidifiers to draw water out of the air and porous surfaces. Drying will reduce the risk of mold growth after any category of water damage.
Even if it doesn’t flood much in your area, that doesn’t mean that it won’t ever happen. Because you can’t predict everything that will occur during severe weather, it’s a good idea to be prepared for a variety of situations. Flood insurance can help you do that.
Repairs Can Be Costly
Not only can flood water affect the structure of the building, but it can damage a lot of the items inside as well, such as electronics, furniture and artwork. Because flood water is contaminated, everything will need to be cleaned and sanitized. Without insurance, you could end up paying a lot for these repairs.
It’s Not Included in Your Basic Policy
You might think that you don’t need insurance specifically for flood if you already have a commercial insurance policy. However, most companies don’t include floods in their basic policies. Because flood repairs can cost the insurance company a lot of money, you will need to purchase an additional policy to cover this kind of damage.
It is a good idea to have a rental insurance policy in the event of an accident. Many property managers require rental insurance. Coverage can vary from policy to policy. Some policies cover property damage, theft, personal belongings and even lodging in the event of a displacing emergency. It’s a good idea to look into obtaining a rental insurance policy, and if you already have one, it’s good to be familiar with what is and what is not covered.
Property management/ owner duties
Any landlord is responsible for keeping the apartment maintained to an acceptable level of livability. Basic plumbing, appliance and electrical maintenance is the responsibility of the landlord, as is basic property upkeep. The landlord can be held negligible for damage incurred due to failing to perform these basic functions.
Damage to personal property
Damage to the building itself, as well as utilities and appliances should be covered by the property owner’s insurance policy. Damage to personal property falls under the responsibility of the party who caused the damages, which may or may not be the tenant.

It is encouraged that you install both ionization AND photoelectric smoke alarms, OR dual sensor smoke alarms, which contain both ionization and photoelectric smoke sensors.
Test batteries in your smoke alarms on a monthly basis.
Replace batteries in battery-powered and hard-wired smoke alarms at least once a year (except non-replaceable 10-year lithium batteries).
Install smoke alarms on every level of your home, including the basement, both inside and outside of sleeping areas.
Replace the entire smoke alarm unit every 8-10 years or according to the manufacturer's instructions.
Never disable a smoke alarm while cooking - it can be a deadly mistake.

A home fire can be one of the most devastating events to occur in the life of a homeowner.
It is likely you have lost a tremendous amount of personal belongings and have suffered a substantial amount of mental anguish.
These are a few tips to follow:
Review your policy
You may have replacement coverage for your home, but it may only be for “actual cash value” for your lost personal items. Upon contacting your insurance company, the agent should be able to tell you about this and may suggest purchasing an endorsement to ensure that your personal belongings will, in fact be covered under a replacement policy.
Immediately File Your Claim.
All homeowner policies require that you report the damage as soon as possible. Your first step is to submit a “proof of loss” claim to your agent. This document will consist of an itemized list your losses how old the items were and the value of each item. The longer you put off this step, the longer it will take your insurance company to send an adjuster to address your claim.
Record Your Living Expenses
All homeowner’s policies contain a “loss of use” clause which entitles the insured to be reimbursed for additional living expenses incurred while their home is uninhabitable. Be mindful that these expenses only include additional living expenses, meaning the difference between your normal expenses and what it is costing your while you are kept from your home. Find out what your daily budget is.

Regardless of if you have experienced a small kitchen fire or a complete burn down, you will need an experienced restoration company to help assess the damage. The American Red Cross encourages that each household and car have a preparedness kit, but sadly only 51.5% of US homes reportedly have an emergency kit ready. Here at SERVPRO of South Rancho Cucamonga, we’re passionate about preparedness. As we head into the 2021 summer season, we recommend homes and businesses prepare power outage kits for the instance they find themselves without power.

If you think about water damaging your home or business you might imagine the cause to be from a severe storm. The unfortunate reality is that most water damages are caused when ordinary household appliances fail. It's important to know the areas around your home that pose a threat for damage, and what to do after it happens.
Bathroom Leaks
Bathroom water leaks cause significant damage to a home. This is especially true if the bathroom is located upstairs.
Sewer and Drain Backups
Sewer water has the potential to cause health issues, not to mention a disgusting smell. This can bring serious issues to the home or business owner. Water that backs up from a sewer is called "black water” and can contain all types of harmful contaminants.
Washing Machines
Washing machine leaks are among the most common causes of flood damage in a home and can result in significant damage not only in the laundry room but also in adjacent rooms and areas. Some laundry rooms are located on the second floor of homes thus multi-level damage can occur. Remember to replace rubber and plastic hoses with reinforced steel braided hoses. Check connections periodically to make sure they are secure and replace the hoses every five years.
If you should suffer water damaged call the water damage experts
Flash floods can cause billions of dollars worth of damage to properties across America every year. Heavy rainfall can be a contributing factor causing city sewer systems to back up and overflow. Nearby road floods can flow downstream into the lower levels of your property and cause extensive damage to your possessions or structure. Due to the harmful nature of floodwater, you need professional help to get your home back to pre loss conditions.
Typically the impact of flood damage homes depends on the type of water. SERVPRO groups flood water into three distinct categories. The first is white water which may contain odors and microbial fungi but poses no significant risk to your health. The second is grey water which may have herbicides or pesticides present. The third and most dangerous type is black water which presents a biohazard risk by containing raw sewage or other pathogens.
Call SERVPRO® of South Rancho Cucamonga we can help you salvage your possessions and dry your home or business (909) 758-0189

The last thing you want to do when you discover a problem such as back mold is to make it worse. A good principle with mold is to keep it contained in one area as this will make mold removal faster and easier. To do this, it helps to understand a little bit about how mold spreads throughout a building. All types of mold are made up of microscopic scores that float on the tiniest of breezes. They also like warm, damp locations, such as moist attics and basements, bathrooms, and sometimes laundry areas. There are hundreds of different types of mold, and though they might require slightly different cleaning approaches, most types spread in a similar manner.
One of the first actions a qualified mold remediation company like SERVPRO of South Rancho Cucamonga will take is to turn off the furnace. The following measures should be taken to facilitate mold containment:
One of the best ways to protect your employees and facility in Rancho Cucamonga when an emergency arises is adequate preparation. If you design and practice a plan with all staff members, it will help keep them safe. Conducting a fire drill also identifies any problems that need to be remedied, such as blocked exits or faulty alarms.
Preparing for Evacuation Plan
Before conducting a drill, you need to create a comprehensive written plan with the help of an assigned safety team.
Assign a person to account for each employee
Decide how to alert all employees about the drill
Designate the preferred exit routes for employees
Before conducting the fire drill, have training sessions with all employees to go over the exit routes, the meeting place outside and the person to whom they report
Always alert your local fire department before you pull an alarm so they are aware of the drill
Once the alarm is activated, start a timer. Have each designated person accountable for their group. Once everyone is accounted for outside, stop the timer and assess how long the drill took
Review the results of the drill with your safety team to identify any weaknesses in the plan. Continue to practice until you are satisfied with the response time
Flooding and water damage is very invasive. Water quickly spreads throughout your home and gets absorbed into floors, walls, furniture, and more. SERVPRO South Rancho Cucamonga arrives quickly and starts the water extraction process almost immediately. This immediate response helps to minimize the damage and the cleaning and restoration costs.

Mold is essentially a moisture problem. The spores thrive on water and will congregate and establish colonies when near a water source. This is also why mold is found near plumbing, in basements, attics, bathrooms, and wall cavities because it thrives in damp, dark, and humid areas.
Dangers of Toxic Mold
Black Mold is used as a blanket term referring to toxic mold. However, the only way to tell what type of mold is present in your building is to have it tested. No matter the kind of mold, you should safely remove it following city and state regulations as quickly as possible, ensuring everyone's safety.
Mold Growth
Mold spreads quickly, usually taking less than 48 to 72 hours to develop. Because of the accelerated rate of growth and the variety of species, mold should be dealt with quickly and precisely. To slow mold growth or development, you may want to install dehumidifiers and other means of ventilation in your building or property.
Mold Remediation
Mold is a naturally occurring substance, and as such, you should be cautious of companies promising the removal of all molds. Qualified mold remediation specialists in the Rancho Cucamonga, area understand that mold cleanup and remediation is not about eliminating every occurrence of mold, as that's impossible, but instead returning mold levels to natural levels.
The phrase black mold has become scarier than reality because of manipulative advertising strategies. However, despite the hype, mold is still a problem that demands immediate attention, and as mold types vary greatly, it is best to seek professional assistance in the removal process. Contact your mold remediation specialist SERVPRO of South Rancho Cucamonga (909) 758-0189
Mold growth can do severe damage to your home. If you spot mold anywhere in your home, you should take decisive measures to get rid of it SERVPRO of South Rancho Cucamonga is here to help.
The best way to deal with mold is to call a professional mold removal, remediation, and restoration company. These are the only people qualified to deal with black mold and other kinds of fungus. A representative of the company will come out and conduct an in-depth assessment of your home. They will determine how much black mold and mold fungus is in the house and the extent to which it has spread.
Mildew, humidity, and warmth are some of the factors that give rise to mold fungus. The daily use of hot water in the bathroom makes it one of the spaces most susceptible to mold growth. Taking action against mold growth in showers, tubs, and sinks are familiar enough.
Mold can also occur when you have water damage in your second story of your home and is not remediated by a professional.
On the day work is scheduled to start, the first thing they will do is put on special suits for protection. They will then seal the affected areas off and apply negative pressure to them. This step is to prevent black mold spores and mold fungus from escaping into other parts of the house.
Once they have removed the mold, our the specialists will put the mold into special containers to take it off the premises. We will have a third party testing company coming to your home. A mold removal, remediation, and restoration company is the only way to ensure the mold is eliminated, contact SERVPRO of South Rancho Cucamonga for additional information. (909) 758-0189

Minimize the Risk of Fires in your Commercial property
Identify any potential hazards in the building. Look for the presence of ignition sources (heaters, lights, electrical equipment, etc.). Also look for potential sources of fuel for a fire (plastic, packages, rubber, petrol, chemicals, etc.).
Consider which of these hazards should be deemed the most important risk.
Put measures in place to control these risks. It is important to think about the hierarchy of control in this case. For example, eliminate items that could generate an explosive atmosphere, inspect and clean all machinery, turn off electricity points when the business is not inhabited, remove materials that could be used as fuel, store, and dispose of flammable substances accordingly.
Monitor the hazards and continue to perform inspections on all necessary equipment. It is better to be over-prepared.

A great place to keep your fire extinguisher at home
The best way to keep your family and home safe from a fire is to take action before it happens!
For your loved ones, take the time to:
Practice fire drills with your family
Have an escape plan from each room; and,
Have a designated meeting place outside of your home to make sure everyone has safely made it out of the house.
For your home, take some precautionary steps now to fireproof your home:
Check Your Smoke Alarms Often: Your smoke alarms will alert you of a fire before you see or smell smoke. Check them at least every six months.
Keep A Fire Extinguisher In Your Home: A fire extinguisher can be used to put out some small fires and stop them from spreading. Every home should have one. If your home has more than one story, it's a good idea to have a fire extinguisher on each level.
Never Leave Candles Unattended: Candles can easily catch furniture, papers and even hanging pictures and décor on fire. Be sure to extinguish candles when you leave the room and especially if you leave your home.
Remove Clutter: Clutter that is too close to a heat source can catch fire. Once clutter catches on fire, it can make the fire worse and even stop you from getting out of your home during a fire. Get rid of clutter that could catch fire or block an escape route.
Check Your Electric Cords, Sockets and Exposed Wires: Check your electric cords and exposed wires often to make sure they are intact and not damaged. Make sure the wall sockets are not too full and that all the plugs are secure.
Acting on these safety precautions will give you and your family peace of mind.
Each type of is designed for different types of fire? Whether for your home or business, it’s important to have the correct type of fire extinguisher available.
Class A: This is the most common fire extinguisher. It can be used to put out fires in ordinary combustibles such as cloth, wood, rubber, paper and many plastics.
Class B: This type of fire extinguisher is used on fires involving flammable liquids, such as grease, gasoline or oil.
Class C: These fire extinguishers are designed for fires involving appliances, tools, or other equipment electrically energized or plugged in.
Class D: These fire extinguishers are for use on flammable metals, and are typically found only in factories that work with flammable metals.
Class K: This type of fire extinguisher is intended for use on fires that involve vegetable oils, animal oils or fats in cooking appliances. Class K fire extinguishers are generally found in commercial kitchens, but are becoming more popular for use in home kitchens.
Multi-Use: There are fire extinguishers available that are able to be used on several different types of fires. A combination of Classes A, B and C is a common multi-use fire extinguisher.

Here are some interesting statistics regarding Cooking Fires:
Forty-Two percent of surveyed consumers say they have left the kitchen to talk or text on the phone, and 35 percent to use the computer to check email while food is cooking. If you tend to do a lot of cooking, invest in a second or third timer. They're an inexpensive way to stay safe while ensuring that your holiday dishes do not overcook.
Nearly half (45 percent) of consumers say they have left the room to watch television or listen to music. Multi-tasking during the busy holiday season is tempting. If you succumb, it's important not to leave the stove or oven unattended
Nearly one third (29 percent) of consumers reported that they have intentionally disabled smoke alarms while cooking.
More than half (56 percent) of surveyed consumers said they plan to cook for family or friends during the holidays this year - with 42 percent of those cooking for groups of 11 or more.
A large majority (83 percent) acknowledged that they have engaged in dangerous cooking behaviors such as disabling the smoke alarm and leaving cooking food unattended to perform non-essential activities - including watching television, talking or texting on the phone, checking email or doing laundry.
Looking at the general survey population, a startling one in 10 adults has actually left the home completely while cooking, and others left cooking food unattended to perform non-essential activities.
An ERP Emergency Ready program is a method of planning for emergencies long before they occur. It’s a carefully devised, well-rehearsed strategy that guides you and your employees to take decisive action during a catastrophe. Here are some things to consider while putting your ERP into place:
PLAN FOR WORST CASE SCENARIOS
Encourage your employees to formulate as many disaster scenarios as they can. DETERMINE PROTECTIVE ACTIONS
It is necessary to create an ERP that protects anyone in the building. The Department of Homeland Security refers to this as “Protective Actions for Life Safety,” including:
Fire Drills -- Rehearsals for action during a fire.
Sheltering -- Sheltering staff during a natural disaster.
Sheltering in Place -- Sheltering staff during a man-made emergency.

Effective Drying Takes Care of Several Issues
After water loss in the home, SERVPRO of South Rancho Cucamonga technicians work to extract water and move quickly to dry the property. Mold spores germinate rapidly in highly humid conditions and eradicating the moist air assists in eliminating the potential mold infestations. In many cases, the reduction of strong water odors occurs through complete drying.
How Does SERVPRO of South Rancho Cucacmonga Determine When a Room is Dry?
Technicians monitor properties and take readings to determine humidity levels and set drying goals. They scope the area during and after the drying phase to ensure the attainment of the air quality goals.
Can the Water in the Home Be Too Deep?
Technicians have an assorted array of equipment to use for groundwater removal. If the water is over a couple of inches, they have submersible pumps that allow for continuous pumping of water, so there are no delays in cleanup efforts.
- Utilize Advanced Drying and Monitoring Equipment
-Clean soot from every surface in your home.
-Apply necessary treatment to deodorize and get rid of smoke smell.

Fire damage resulting from electrical fire can be very hectic to deal with especially if it is a utility room fire. Therefore, it is imperative for the fire restoration process to be handled appropriately. The firefighters are also adequately trained to carry out fire suppression processes in any setting regardless of whether it is a utility room fire or an electrical fire. The firefighters use fire trucks fitted with the appropriate equipment to put out any fire in a commercial property.
Apart from fire damage, SERVORO of South Rancho Cucamonga also has the capacity to trace the hidden damages such as smoke damage and soot damage. Failure to handle smoke and soot damage can shift the damages from primary to secondary. Once the smoke damages have reached a secondary level, they may result to the closure of your business.
The fire restoration experts advice those who own commercial properties to install a fire sprinkler system in their buildings. The fire sprinkler system can be quite effective especially if it’s a utility room fire. Just like a fire hose, the fire sprinkler system releases water under pressure to put off the fire within a room in the building. Therefore, the fire sprinkler system could save you from huge losses especially when a utility room fire strikes because most of the things stored in a utility room are of value to your business.
At SERVPRO of South Rancho Cucamonga we offer a full range of commercial restoration services including an Emergency Preparedness Program. The Emergency Preparedness Program ensures that your good planning means good response. Without a good program in place, valuable time is often lost in confusion. Knowing who to call SERVPRO of South Rancho Cucamonga for commercial restoration, when disaster strikes can be the difference between disaster and tragedy.

Smoke alarms save lives. Smoke alarms that are properly installed and maintained play a vital role in reducing fire deaths and injuries. If there is a fire in your home, smoke spreads fast and you need smoke alarms to give you time to get out.
Here's what you need to know
A closed door may slow the spread of smoke, heat, and fire. Install smoke alarms in every sleeping room and outside each separate sleeping area. Install alarms on every level of the home.
Smoke alarms should be interconnected. When one sounds, they all sound.
Larger homes may need extra smoke alarms.
Test your smoke alarms at least once a month. Press the test button to be sure the alarm is working. If the alarm still does not work replace the batteries, and if it still doesn’t work replace it.
There are two kinds of alarms. Ionization smoke alarms are quicker to warn about flaming fires. Photoelectric alarms are quicker to warn about smoldering fires. It is best to use of both types of alarms in the home.
When a smoke alarm sounds, get outside and stay outside. Don’t wait, the life you and your family may be on the line.
Replace all smoke alarms in your home every 10 years whether they are still working or not.

* Don't wait until the water is up to the bowl's rim – the water will have nowhere to go except the floor
* If a plunger doesn't work, call a plumber

Santa Ana winds are dry and warm winds from the great Basin, an area that incorporates large parts of the states of Nevada and Utah. They start in the Basin's inland deserts, east and north of Southern California, and flow downward, taking a turn toward the Pacific Ocean.
Santa Anas are usually (but not always) late-year winds that form when the weather is cooler in the Great Basin; they don't begin in hot deserts. The winds, pushed toward Southern California by high pressure systems, actually start off as cool winds.
But as the winds head downslope, they get both warmer (air heats up as it descends) and drier.
Santa Ana wind can damage your property and we at SERVPRO of South Rancho Cucamonga are always ready to help you,

Cleaning and Packing After a Home Fire Damage Damage
If your home requires extensive restoration or cleaning due to fire damage, SERVPRO of South Rancho Cucamonga can conduct an organized, efficient move-out of the affected area. Each item is carefully packed up and transported to our facility for cleaning. We use several methods of cleaning your contents: dry cleaning, used for cleaning light residues or to pre-clean prior to wet cleaning; wet cleaning, an effective cleaning method for removing moderate to heavy residues; spray and wipe, effective for items that can’t withstand wet cleaning; foam cleaning, used for upholstery fabrics that might shrink or bleed if wet cleaned; abrasive cleaning, involves agitation of the surface being cleaned and emersion cleaning, where contents are dipped into a bath of the cleaning product.
After cleaning, we meticulously re-wrap the contents in fresh packing material and place them in new boxes, which are stored, until building restoration is completed.
A terrible storm can cause an immense amount of damage to your home. Some visible to the naked eye some not. Below are a few things homeowners should look for.
Roof:Look for shingles that have discoloration, tearing, or even holes in them. These can all be signs that your roof has been damaged. Another sign is if there are leaks in your roof or your ceiling.
Gutters:After a hail storm, looking for dents or dings can also give you a better picture of what the storm did to the rest of your home. Your gutters can also give you insight to whether you have roof damage. Check to see if there are granules from the asphalt shingles in your gutter.
Windows:Look at each of the windows at your homes and note any signs of shattered or broken windows and frame damage. This is especially important after a hail storm or a strong wind storm.
Exterior:Not only is it important to look at the siding of your home to check for damage, it is also important that you check any appliances. Inspect your AC/HCAC unit as well as items such as a barbeque grill.
Always Make Sure to Place Your Candles in a Safe Area
Home decorations like dried flowers are highly flammable. Keep these and other decorations away from open flames and heat sources, including light bulbs and heaters.
Keep emergency exits clear of decorations, so nothing blocks escape routes.
Teach children to stay away from open flames. Be sure they know how to stop, drop and roll if their clothing catches fire.
Place lit candles away from anything that can burn and out of the way of doorsteps, walkways and yards.
Battery operated candles are a safe alternative to candles or torch lights when decorating walkways and yards.
Never leave candles unattended or forget to put them out when you are leaving your home or going to sleep.

*Evidence on walls. Sagging, saturated drywall is obvious. More subtle signs of water leakage inside walls, include paint that is peeling or bubbling. Cracking may appear in drywall as small amounts of water on the inside of the wall cause the material to swell and retract without appearing soaked.
*Changes in flooring. If water is seeping into subflooring due to a saturated foundation orwater pipe leakage routed through the crawl space, tile may loosen without explanation or even any noticeable wetness. Linoleum can peel and laminate flooring may warp.
*Stains and spotting. Walls may exhibit stains or spots that may be permanent or appear and then fade. These may be mere discolorations or obvious signs of mildew or mold that indicate hidden moisture inside a wall—a leaky water supply line or roof leakage that has migrated down into wall voids, for example.
*Musty odors. These are the giveaway tomold somewhere in the house. Mold doesn’t grow without the presence of moisture so, unless you have a high natural relative humidity inside the house, you can assume there is a plumbing leak somewhere or water seeping in from outdoors.
*Sounds of water running. Late at night when the house is quiet, can you hear the subtle hiss of water running in the plumbing system or sounds of dripping inside walls? Mark any spots where you can hear water in motion for further investigation.

Does Your Rancho Cucamonga Home Have a Mold Problem?
Microscopic mold spores naturally occur almost everywhere, both outdoors and indoors. This makes it impossible to remove all mold from a home or business. Therefore, mold remediation reduces the mold spore count back to its natural or baseline level. Some restoration businesses advertise “mold removal” and even guarantee to remove all mold, which is a fallacy. Consider the following mold facts:
Mold is present almost everywhere, indoors and outdoors.
Mold spores are microscopic and float along in the air and may enter your home through windows, doors, or AC/heating systems or even hitch a ride indoors on your clothing or a pet.
Mold spores thrive on moisture. Mold spores can quickly grow into colonies when exposed to water. These colonies may produce allergens and irritants.
Before mold remediation can begin, any sources of water or moisture must be addressed. Otherwise, the mold may return.
Mold often produces a strong, musty odor and can lead you to possible mold problem areas.
Even higher-than-normal indoor humidity can support mold growth. Keep indoor humidity below 45 percent.
If your home or business has a mold problem, we can inspect and assess your property and use our specialized training, equipment, and expertise to remediate your mold infestation.

The use of solar panels is becoming increasingly popular for homeowners in Rancho Cucamonga. However, many homeowners are unsure about panel damage that may occur during a storm. If you have or are considering installing panels, it can be useful to know what they can withstand during a storm.
What Are Common Types of Damage to Panels?
Panels are often more durable than traditional roofing options. However, panels may still sustain damage in a storm, and this can ultimately result in damage to your home. Homeowners whose houses have sustained storm damage may find it helpful to contact SERVPRO of South Rancho Cucamonga at (909) 758-0189. Common types of damage from a storm may include:
Leaks as a result of long-term water damage
Scratches from large tree limbs, which can limit the amount of energy panels can take in and put out
Malfunctions due to a lightning strike
Can Panels Handle Hail?
For many homeowners, hail is a common concern when it comes to panel damage. However, the majority of solar panels made today are constructed to withstand the impact of hail. In general, repeated strikes in the same spot are necessary for hail to damage a panel. If you live in an area that is prone to hailstorms, it can be useful to research the strength of several different types of panels prior to purchase and installation.
How Can You Prevent Damage to Your Panels?
Although you can't prevent a storm, there are steps you can take to reduce the likelihood of roof damage with your panels. Strategically placing a lightning rod on the top of your house, in an area that isn't touching or covering the panels, can help to redirect a lightning strike, which can ultimately prevent damage. Additionally, cutting dead limbs and trimming healthy tree limbs can reduce the chance of damage to your panels.
Panel damage can be a costly and frustrating issue to deal with after a storm occurs. However, knowing the types of damage that may occur to your panels during a storm, what panels can withstand and how to prevent damage to your panels can help you to prepare for the effects of a storm.
When disaster strikes in San Bernardino County, the last thing you want to think about is where the spare batteries are or whether your perishables have passed their expiration date. Make sure you're ready for any situation — and how to handle the aftermath — with these top tips.
Pack a "Go Bag"
If you have to leave your home in a hurry, you'll want to have some essentials packed and ready to go. Keep the following supplies, recommended by FEMA, in a portable container in the area of your house where you'll take shelter:
Three days' worth of food and water (at least a gallon per family member)
Battery powered (or hand crank) flashlights and radio
Extra batteries
First aid kit
Whistle to signal for help
Trash bags and duct tape, along with a dust mask
Wrench or pliers to turn off utilities
Manual can opener for food
Regional maps
Cell phone with chargers, inverter, or solar charger
Moist towelettes and any personal sanitation or specific family needs, like pet supplies
(For additional recommendations, be sure to check out ready.gov)
We also suggest having smaller versions of your kit stocked with a few necessities like walking shoes, snacks, and a flashlight at work. In general, you'll also need enough cash on hand for five days of basic needs (gas and food), but any amount of ready money will help if ATMs are down.
Once you have your supplies together, it pays to go through them at least once a year too, to weed out expired food and batteries.
Make an Action Plan
When things get chaotic, you want to make sure that every family member knows what to do. We suggest designating two meeting places (one close by and one a little further away in your neighborhood) and hang a map with the spots marked near your emergency kit.
It also pays to have important contacts written down if the power goes out and there's nowhere to charge your cell phone. Make a mini contact list — ready.gov has templates you can print out — with important numbers that everyone can stow in their wallets. Leave a copy in your emergency kit, too. Establish a plan for checking in with relatives in case local lines get jammed. Text messages will often go through, even when phone lines are clogged.
Prep Your Home
If the power goes out and you have time, unplug appliances and electronics and turn off air conditioners, whether you stay or go. This will prevent damage when the electricity surges back on. Leave one lamp on so you'll know when the power's back.
How you store food can also make a difference when it comes to salvaging items afterwards, according to the FSIS. If there's a chance of flooding, be sure to store dry goods in waterproof containers high enough that they will be safely out of the way of contaminated water.
Grouping food together in the freezer can help it stay colder longer in the case of a power outage. If you have advanced warning, freeze any items you don't need right away, like leftovers, milk, and fresh meat and poultry to keep them at a safe temperature longer and stock your freezer with as much ice as you can fit. Coolers stocked with ice can also be helpful if the power is out for more than four hours.
Though you'll want to minimize the amount you open and close your refrigerator door once the power goes out, FSIS recommends keeping an appliance thermometer in your fridge and freezer to help you determine if food is safe to eat. The refrigerator temperature should be lower than 40 degrees Fahrenheit and the freezer temperature should be below zero degrees Fahrenheit.

Odor removal is an essential component of almost every restoration job. There are a variety of options available from masking agents to foggers to ozone and hydroxyl generators, and so on. In our industry, we have noticed a rather large debate being waged over the benefits and dangers of these two options. There is a clear advantage to using machines to eliminate odors from spaces and items rather than simply just trying to mask them. SERVPRO of South Rancho Cucamonga technicians are highly trained to recommend the best method for your odor neutralization.
It is VERY IMPORTANT to know that both ozone and hydroxyl will remove odors – hydroxyl will just take longer.
Differences Between Hydroxyl and Ozone
Hydroxyl is not harmful to plants and fish.
Hydroxyl does not leave behind a chemical smell.
Hydroxyl works on a larger variety of odors.
Hydroxyl can be used in wet areas to help deodorize. Ozone machine used in wet areas can bleach a material.
Hydroxyl machines will typically take longer to deodorize.
Ozone can possibly damage rubber or leather goods.
Ozone is to be used in unoccupied areas with return to the area at least one hour after the machine has turned off.
Ozone is much stronger and faster and must be closely monitored.
Both options are very effective and have their time and place on when to be used. Depending on the type of odor and the amount of time allotted will dictate what option you should choose. Be sure to only use experienced technicians when using equipment such as these. Supervision of both methods is necessary to effectively remove the odor.
Call SERVPRO of South Rancho Cucamonga (909)-758-0189 for all your deodorization needs.

When dinner caught fire in the house, the entire house required odor removal. The homeowners brought in SERVPRO of Rancho Cucamonga quickly to clean up the mess. We're Faster To Any Size Disaster.
Removal of Damaged Items
SERVPRO of South Rancho Cucamonga techs do not remove any items without the approval of the homeowner or adjuster. The techs compile a report of things that need disposing of during fire loss cleanup. Each piece gets photographed and entered into a detailed report that assists in expediting insurance claims, in this case, the losses were few with only a few ceiling tiles that received charring too great for restoration and required removal. SERVPRO of South Rancho Cucamonga always attempts to restore, and not replace, fire-damaged building materials, fixtures, and possessions.
Smoke Residue Cleaning Process
The techs test the smoke present on surfaces before beginning the restoration process to ensure they use the best methods that do not mar or damage the contents they are cleaning. This is because different types of smoke require diverse applications for removal. While dry smoke gets lifted away with specialized tools, wet smoke requires solvents and cleaning agents to release its grip.
Because the wall-unit AC's were running during the fire, the smoke odor from the kitchen fire spread throughout these rooms. SERVPRO of South Rancho Cucamonga technicians used air scrubbers and air purifiers to assist in the capture of airborne soot particles. Hydroxyl generators are safe for use around people, plants, and pets as they use UV rays, precisely like from the Sun. These machines take odorous particulate matter and change it at the molecular level, neutralizing foul odors in the room. The rapid removal of odorous particles is crucial to minimizing disruptions to neighboring units.

Improper maintenance of faulty wiring and ignoring regular check-ups of your electrical systems at work can result in a dangerous fire. In the case of such an event, it is crucial you handle it correctly before and after. If you see the start of a fire , evacuate all personnel from your workplace, shut off power from the breaker box, and call 911. It is important you do not pull out anything plugged in as it could be electrically charged and result in harm to yourself. Do not use water to extinguish an electrical fire, nor a standard fire extinguisher if the power is still connected. A class C fire extinguisher is required for these types of fires, but if the power is cut then a class A extinguisher should be used. Once you have put out the fire completely the results will be damage to some extent and the lasting odor of a fire. SERVPRO of South Rancho Cucamonga is able to handle this cleanup and before you know it, the fires damage will disappear. It is important to deal with an issue like this immediately and the longer you wait the more lasting damage. Call us 24/7 at 909-758-0189

Flood damage remediation situation in South Rancho Cucamonga easier
Expert Help for Flood Damaged Rancho Cucamonga Businesses
Flooding is not a pleasant event for any property owner in Rancho Cucamonga. The struggles felt by our local businesses when overland or internal flooding occurs in commercial spaces extend to the city at large as well. We all depend on our schools, restaurants, retail stores, workplaces, and entertainment venues to be open and ready to meet our needs. When a flood disaster strikes a commercial customer our efforts help both the business and our community.
A water supply line break in a commercial space can cause significant flood damage in Rancho Cucamonga. If the event occurs outside of working hours, the quantity of water flowing into a facility can be vast and incredibly destructive. As soon as the staff at the business first notes the flooding, fast action from water removal professionals is crucial to limit the damage done.
SERVPRO crews are expert at managing large flood water removal scenarios. We arrive in vehicles stocked with pumps and truck-mounted high-efficiency extractors powered by onboard generators if the electricity at the site is temporarily unavailable. Our crews jump on the tasks at hand as soon as a preliminary assessment completes, and the water is shut off, confident in our ability to begin and complete needed water evacuation.
After the majority of the standing water exits, SERVPRO crew members use a range of devices to detect and measure moisture levels to inform us as we structure drying goals and configurations. Infrared scanners help detect water trapped in recesses and cavities behind walls, under floors and ceilings, and any other place moisture collects in a commercial physical plant.
All water must be suctioned out or otherwise released or the risk of mold growth spirals. The SERVPRO team uses a host of strategies including flood cuts, drilled holes, and top-down wand extraction to rid the spaces of all liquid water. Then we employ air movers, heaters, and dehumidifiers to reduce the moisture content of porous building materials by moving water out as a vapor to be captured and removed via condensation or absorption.
Water that remains unabated for 24 to 48 hours dramatically increases the probability that mold spores generate into colonies and multiply. Any other microorganisms present in a sewage backup or overland flooding during the event also have a window of opportunity to grow and spread. Because of this, SERVPRO concludes flood damage remediation with a thorough cleaning and treatment with EPA registered disinfectants to inhibit microbial infestation.
SERVPRO of South Rancho Cucamonga works fast and hard to remediate commercial flood damage in the communities we serve. Contact us 24/ 7 at (909) 758-0189 to schedule an evaluation.

Keep you and your family safe from the dangers of contaminated water. Below are the classifications of water to help you identify the waters that may be harmful to your family.
Clean Water:
This is water that does not hold a threat to you or your family. It is water that can come from a broken pipe and that can be considered clean. This water however, can quickly turn into the next category, grey water within 48 hours if it becomes contaminated.
Grey Water:
This water is category two and may pose possible health risks to your family. Grey water could be water from anywhere but that has been sitting for more than 48 hours. Examples of this water would be aquariums, waterbeds, and clogged sinks.
Black Water:
Black water is a definitive health risk. This water includes floodwater and sewage water. Sewage is a breeding ground for bacteria, mold, fungi, and even viruses. These viruses can have very harmful effects.
Keep your family and yourself safe from the dangerous of contaminated waters. Contact our team at SERVPRO of South Rancho Cucamonga for the most safe and effective water removal. (909)758-0189
Often during heavy rains, winds, or falling debris, homes businesses can experience roof damage. For some, the first instinct is to apply a roof tarp, looking to quickly solve the issue and attempt to reduce the possibility of additional damage. Roof tarps allow you to have a quick solution and a gap of time until better weather conditions allow for safe inspection and repair.
It seems like a good, inexpensive idea to quickly cover the holes in the roof, stop a water leak, and to have a level of security in knowing that no rodents or other animals will enter your home or business through those holes.
Although a roof tarp has many benefits, we do not recommend it as a permanent solution to your problem, because:
Some brands are more heavy duty than others, but they all wear out over time.
If the roof has water damage that leaked into your home, mold could be growing in the affected areas.
Wind can move the tarp, leaving spaces uncovered where water can start leaking again.
The tarp may increase the heat inside your home or business, which could lead to a higher electrical bill.
If not installed properly, it could hold small pools of standing water, perfect for mosquitoes to dwell.

Across the United States, flooding is one of the most commonly widespread weather-related disasters. Whether your home or business is near a coastline, along city streets, in the mountains, near a river or even in the desert, there is always potential for flood damage.
Though you may have never experienced a flood in the past, there’s no level of security to assure that you won't in the future. In fact, 20% of all claims paid by the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) were for policies in low-risk communities.
According to the American Red Cross (ARC), floods cause more damage in the U.S. every year than any other weather-related disaster. The ARC offers the following safety tips:
Stay away from floodwaters as much as possible. If you approach a flowing stream where water is above your ankles, stop, turn around, and go another way. Six inches of swiftly moving water can sweep you off of your feet.
If you approach a flooded road while driving, turn around and go another way. If you are caught on a flooded road and water are rising rapidly around you, get out of the car quickly and move to higher ground. Most cars can be swept away by less than two feet of moving water.
Keep children out of the water. They are curious and often lack judgment about running water or contaminated water.
If your home or business is ever affected by a flood, contact the professionals at SERVPRO of South Rancho Cucamonga at (909)758-0189. Even minor floods have the potential to cause major damage to a structure when not treated quickly and properly, and the cleanup is often an overwhelming task. SERVPRO Offers Water Damage Restoration and Moisture Control
SERVPRO Can Restore Properties in Rancho Cucamonga Damaged by Water
SERVPRO has the experience necessary to inform you of the downsides of excess water in your home. The removal of excess moisture from your Rancho Cucamonga home should be a matter of top concern at all times. That is because excess water may find its way into your home through several access points. These include unattended taps, leaks in pipes, excess precipitation, and outright negligence, to mention but a few.
Regardless of its source, such water may adversely impact your home. In the discussions below, SERVPRO of South Rancho Cucamonga describes the dangers of water damage and some of the various means and ways of mitigating them.
Carpets are highly absorbent. They easily soak up plenty of water which subsequently weakens its fabrics. If the situation is left to go on unabated, this may often lead to the diminished overall lifespan of the carpets. This means that your carpets can end up being obsolete before their time.
SERVPRO of South Rancho Cucamonga knows too well that wooden pieces of furniture are also very susceptible to excess moisture. That is because such moisture often gets absorbed by the wood and in so doing dampens those wooden components. The resultant effect is rotting of the same and substantially diminished lifespan. Apart from that, they also weaken the furniture so much so that, they may subject anyone who sits on them to the risk of falling off.
Foundations of the buildings may be weakened by excess moisture. Moisture does weaken the foundations if the underlying soil shifts. This makes the soil quite weak as not to offer the required support. This issue may lead to the overall collapse or cracking of the foundation if not mitigated in time.
SERVPRO points out that hidden moisture can encourage the growth and proliferation of mold. Molds and other fungi thrive well in areas with excess moisture. They can lead to health effects.
Count on us, SERVPRO of South Rancho Cucamonga, to remove water and dry out your home or business by calling (909) 758-0189 to request a quote or book an appointment.
Your home is a special place for you and your family. With so many cherished moments associated with this one of a kind place, it is hard to imagine losing it. Unfortunately, many families are forced to go through the heartbreaking process of saying goodbye to their homes as a result of fires. What is even harder to accept is that most house fires could have been prevented with a few fire safety facts and fire prevention tips in place. So just what items in your home pose a threat to your safety and the safety of your family? Use the following fire safety information and fire prevention tips for how to prevent house fires, and continue making memories in your home.
Fire Prevention Tip #1: Test Smoke Alarms
One of the easiest fire prevention tips is to regularly check smoke alarms to ensure they are working properly. Smoke alarms are essential for how to prevent house fires, serving as the first line of defense when a house fire is imminent or already underway by emitting a piercing alarm to notify those in the house the moment smoke is detected. A non-functioning smoke alarm can, therefore, mean serious disaster. Each smoke alarm comes with important fire safety information and features a small button to test whether it is working or needs new batteries. If the beep is weak when testing the alarm, change the batteries right away.
Fire Prevention Tip #2: Clean Ovens and Stoves
Cleaning ovens and stoves are among the most important fire prevention tips. While cleaning your oven and stove is likely a least favorite chore, doing so on a regular basis can help prevent house fires. Fires from ovens and stoves can result when food particles fall onto burners and get too hot. In addition to removing particles of food in your oven and stove, make sure to keep the area around your oven and stove clear as well. Curtains that hang too close, cookbooks left in the vicinity of these appliances, or ill-placed dish towels can all put you at risk for house fires as well. Create a routine for before and after you cook that ensures ovens and stoves are free of hazards.
Fire Prevention Tip #3: Stay in the Kitchen
With a busy schedule, it can be hard to focus on just one thing at a time. During the evenings, many individuals are pulled in multiple directions, preparing dinner, helping the kids with homework, and getting the house in order for the next day. However, even short distractions that happen while cooking can have serious consequences. One of the well-known fire prevention tips is to never leave food unattended when cooking in the kitchen for any reason, as it only takes mere seconds for a fire to break out. If you must leave the kitchen, make sure to turn off any burners in use, or call a family member to watch over the food until your return.
Fire Prevention Tip #4: Check your Cords
With an increasing dependence on electronics for daily tasks now more than ever, you likely always have something plugged in to charge, whether a cell phone, tablet, or smartwatch. Another method for how to prevent house fires is discarding frayed wires and cords used to transmit power into electronics. Among your list of fire prevention tips, add regularly checking the condition of cords, looking for damage such as exposed wires or frays. If you notice damage, replace the cord immediately. Keep in mind that pets often like to chew on rubbery items, so keep cords out of reach to avoid damage.
Fire Prevention Tip #5: Take Care with Fireplaces
Though one of the more obvious fire safety facts, pay special attention when using fireplaces. Fireplaces pose a special risk for house fires as sparks can easily escape and fly out onto flammable surfaces. When having a fire, make sure there is a door between the fire and the floor to prevent the escape of sparks. When you have distinguished the fire, make sure that all ashes are completely cool before throwing them away. Purchase a metal container to dispose of ashes to reduce the risk of any still-warm ashes from causing a fire. Lastly, never leave a fire unattended under any circumstances.
Fire Prevention Tip #6: Check Your Dryer
Another very common source of house fires is clothes dryers. Fires result from dryer when vents are not properly installed or are not cleaned out regularly. Heat produced during the drying process can cause lint and other debris to get too hot, and lead to a fire. To prevent fires, make sure that dryer vents are properly installed using the instructions that came with the appliance. To be safe, you might consider enlisting a professional to assist with the installation process. Additionally, clean out the lint filter after every load of laundry. This often overlooked step takes just seconds but can save you and your family from experiencing a fire.
Fire Prevention Tip #7: Don’t leave Candles Unattended
Candles work wonders for enhancing the ambiance of a home, promoting much needed calm and relaxation through soothing scent and light. However, the exposed flame makes candles a hazard and potential risk for house fires. Another of the key fire prevention tips when lighting candles is to make sure they are placed far away from any fabric, such as curtains or blankets, and other flammable objects. If you’re leaving the house or starting to feel a bit drowsy, extinguish the flames immediately. Further, if you have little ones or furry friends around, consider waiting until they are out of the room. Pets and kids can easily tip over candles on accident.
Fire Prevention Tip #8: Maintain Heating Sources
Most of us rely on heating systems to keep us warm during the chilly months of winter. Because of this reliance, it is important to make sure that all heating sources are well-maintained and functioning properly. Heating sources that are broken and in need of repairs pose a great risk for fire. Filters should be cleaned regularly to avoid a buildup of dust and debris that can catch on fire. Additionally, you should have all heating sources inspected by a professional on an annual basis to catch malfunctioning components early.
Fire Prevention Tip #9: Avoid Old Space Heaters
If you not only rely on your home’s heating system to keep you warm but also rely on space heaters, take special care. One of the not so well known fire prevention tips, Many old space heaters pose a great risk for house fires, as they often do not have the same safety features now found in newer models (such as turning off automatically when tipped over). When using space heaters, other best practices including keeping heaters away from curtains, blankets, and furniture that can easily catch fire, place them in spots with little foot traffic, set space heaters on solid, firm surfaces, and do not set space heaters on any other surface besides the floor.
Fire Prevention Tip #10: Safely Store Flammable Products
Many of the products we use every day are flammable and therefore put us at risk for house fires. There are obvious products such as gasoline, which should always be stored in UL approved containers in a location outside of the house. Other flammable products include shaving cream and hairspray, which should be stored in cool places away from sources of heat.
Fire Prevention Tip #11: Don’t Smoke in the House
Smokers should pay special attention to their habits to prevent house fires. While you may enjoy the convenience and comfort that comes with smoking in your home, it is best to take smoke breaks outside of the house. A single unattended cigarette or a cigarette dropped after falling asleep in bed or while lounging on the couch, can result in a fire. When cleaning out your ashtray, be sure that all ashes are completely cool. Then, dampen ashes in the sink before placing in a trash can and out of the house.
Fire Prevention Tip #12: Grill Safely
There is nothing more exciting than a backyard barbecue with friends and families in the summer. There are a few precautions to take, however, for how to prevent house fires when grilling. If you’re grilling on the deck, be sure to place non-flammable pads beneath your grill to prevent the start of fire in the event of dropped food or coals. Also, be sure the grill is attended to at all times. Call a friend over to watch the grill if you must step away, even if only for a minute. If there is no one around to watch the grill, turn off the propane.
Fire Prevention Tip #13: Purchase a Fire Extinguisher
One of the best investments for how to prevent house fires is to purchase a fire extinguisher. Having a fire extinguisher handy can make the difference between a frighteningly close call, and a serious disaster resulting in the total loss of your home. Fire extinguishers can be purchased at most home improvement stores, and are incredibly affordable. Store your fire extinguishers in spots that pose a special risk for fires, such as in the kitchen or near fireplaces. Make sure that all family members in the house understand how to operate the fire extinguisher, and are comfortable taking the steps necessary in the event of a fire emergency.

Top reasons your insurance company may deny your fire claim
A home insurance policy typically covers numerous situations, including fire damage. However, there are two home fire circumstances that are usually not covered under most policies: arson and a fire inside a vacant home.
Investigating for Arson
Deliberately setting fire to a home is a criminal act, and a desire to collect insurance money is often the motive. For this reason, insurance companies require a fire investigation as part of the claim process. This helps the insurer establish the cause of the fire and note potentially suspicious details, such as multiple points of origin.
To help further reduce the risk of insurance fraud, your insurance company may also evaluate your personal finance and insurance claim history. Examples of potentially suspicious findings that may result in a denial of a home fire claim include the following:
A recent increase in coverage or decrease in deductible
Extensive debt or pending bankruptcy
Prior insurance claims and loss history
Recently purchased, high-value items on claim list
The value of destroyed contents is inconsistent with household income
Because of this detailed investigation, any homeowner filing a claim in Rancho Cucamonga, Ca should be prepared for a potentially lengthy claim process.
A Vacant Home Fire
Like arson, a vacant home fire is also not typically covered under most insurance policies. A home is considered vacant if it is uninhabited for 30 or more consecutive days. If your insurance company can verify this circumstance, it may deny your claim, forcing you to fund cleanup and restoration costs out-of-pocket. To protect your financial interests, you should consider purchasing vacant home insurance or add an endorsement to your existing policy for any vacation homes or rental property you own.
Protecting Financial Interests
Your home insurance policy can be a strong financial safety net in the event of a home fire. However, because arson and insurance fraud are serious problems, insurance companies must thoroughly investigate fire claims to protect their financial interests. To further safeguard your financial security, you should update your policy to ensure vacation and rental properties are adequately protected.

For many households, chlorine bleach is generally seen as your “go-to” cleaner for tough jobs. While bleach is well-known for its disinfecting properties that doesn't mean it's the best choice for mold - it has distinct drawbacks when cleaning flood impacted buildings.
It is a convenient cleaner and stain remover for hard, non-porous surfaces. Bleach is not made to “soak in”, therefore, its disinfecting properties are limited to a hard surface like tile or glass. If used on porous materials, such as wood and drywall, bleach will stay above the surface and only kill the mold on the surface, while the water is absorbed in.
The surface mold looks gone, but the fact is, if the mold is not removed from the material, it will most likely return and make your mold problem worse in the long run. Mold remediation requires a cleaner to reach deep down into wood and other porous building materials.
Further, its effectiveness in killing bacteria and mold is significantly reduced when it comes in contact with residual dirt, which is often present in flooded homes. If bleach water comes into contact with electrical components and other metal parts of mechanical systems it can cause corrosion. Bleach water can also compromise the effectiveness of termite treatments in the soil surrounding the building.

The real truth behind Rancho Cucamonga water damage remediation
Water damage can happen very quickly. Respond just as fast by contacting SERVPRO for water removal and remediation services.
The kitchen is a common place to experience water damage. Water lines to dishwashers, refrigerators, and of course the kitchen sink. An under-sink leak, especially if it is a slow leak that goes unnoticed for a while, can cause warping of wood and compromise the wall behind the cabinets. Just peeking at the plumbing under the sink on a regular basis can point out a small problem before it turns into a big issue.
SERVPRO of South Rancho Cucamonga technicians came to a water damaged home in Rancho Cucamonga where a leak in a pipe under the kitchen sink had left water in the floor and bottom of the cabinets. The technicians determined the scope of the water was contained inside the kitchen area and had not spread to other areas of the home. Technicians vacuumed the standing water from the tile flooring using portable wet/dry units.
Once the standing water was removed, upon inspecting the interior of cabinets, the technicians determined while the wall at the back of the cabinets was not wet. However, the baseboards around the bottom of the cabinets were retaining moisture. SERVPRO of South Rancho Cucamonga techs removed the baseboards to ensure the wood underneath could be dried entirely to avoid potential secondary damage. No weep holes or other additional drying methods needed.
Positioning air movers to blow moisture up and out of the room, combined with dehumidifiers to rapidly lower the moisture in the room, the kitchen dried quickly. Using moisture detectors to ascertain the area was thoroughly dry, the next step in the restoration could begin. The baseboards were inspected to determine if any warping had occurred. Fortunately, they dried straight so they could be put back into place. The cabinets and flooring were wiped down with our professional-grade anti-bacterial and anti-fungal solutions to leave the surfaces both cleaned and deodorized.

Water Damage Restoration Tips For Your House in Rancho Cucamonga
Water Damage Restoration Tips For Your House After A Flood
Currently we are experiencing heavy rain. With rain comes flooding and mud slides. With innovations in technology, however, the losses due to flood damage can now be restored to their former state. The process is not easy though for it requires extensive mopping up and drying of the property after severe water damage.
Flood water in home or business can damage your walls, floors, carpets and other personal belongings too. Extracting the water is impossible without proper equipment while sun drying does not guarantee your assets’ restoration to their former state before the incident. There is also an additional risk that the water in home might have damaged electrical equipment or wires. Anyone tampering with either could be in for a horrible electrocution during the water cleanup and restoration.
For these reasons, water cleanup and restoration is best handled by professionals. They have the requisite experience, state-of-the-art equipment and techniques to do the job properly and offer mitigation against further damage. If the renovation job requires extensive work, promptness in beginning the works is paramount. The less the time-frame between flood damage and refurbishment, the greater the ease of reinstating a property or item to its preloss state. There are four fundamental steps to follow with any renovation job after water damage:
1. Removal of the flood water The first important step to restoring a property after damaging from water in home or business premise is removing the stagnant water. Often, a submersible pump is used to remove the water accumulation in various structures around the premises. The pump is highly efficient at its job and makes drying of entire submerged sections easier. As a result, it helps in mitigation by preventing further flood damage in the premises.
2. Moisture Mapping It is crucial to get an idea of the extent of water damage and take the first mitigation steps against mold growth. The step uses detection equipment to obtain and appropriately map the moisture values on the property. Properly trained technicians use infrared and digital imaging to determine the damage extent.
3. Mold Inspection and Removal After moisture mapping, the house will need to be prepared to repel mold and mildew. Any residual stagnant water in business or homestead leads to a favorable habitat for the fungi to thrive thus mitigation against it is essential. Water cleanup professionals make use of special detergents to sterilize the area and make the surroundings unfavorable for mold growth. Some renovation firms take advantage of deodorization and ventilation during this step to remove any airborne contaminants and lingering, unpleasant odors.
4. Water Drying This last step ensures the property is completely dry and humidity is brought back to its normal state after flood damage. There are various water drying techniques and the one used will depend on the situation’s severity. These techniques include:
• Air Movers – They help dry the establishment by controlling humidity and promoting air circulation. Working in sections, the air movers remove liquids from all porous materials including carpets and wood. Any remaining water in home or business premises is left for more sophisticated machines.
• Dehumidifiers – dehumidifiers remove moisture from the air and help extract any remaining water in business or home environment. Broadly, professionals use either desiccant or refrigerant dehumidifier. Desiccant dehumidifiers use raw materials that naturally absorb moisture from the environment. Conversely, refrigerant dehumidifiers operate by cooling the air to make it reduce its ability to retain water. As a result, condensation occurs around the equipment’s cooling coils. Applying these machines on a large scale promptly extracts excess humidity from the air leaving no more water in business or household and thus no further water damage. The particular type of equipment, however, depends on the hired company and the how extensive the restoration job is.
With the right professionals, a successful water cleanup is possible, and any damage from water in business or home establishment can be fixed. Each job, however, is unique and requires prompt, proper investigation. This helps come up with a plan based on the steps above to restore the property after water damage. Flooding causes problems wherever it happens. Some of these problems are not visible to the naked eye. You might be able to smell the microbial deposits left behind, and this should be a warning that even floods that barely cover your floor can pose risks long after they are gone.
In the Inland Empire, flood damage can cause damage to a home's structure, including the foundation or walls. The higher flooding becomes, the more damage there can be to walls, furniture, and staircases. Microbial activity, however, can occur in areas well above the flood line. Because humidity levels greatly increase indoors when flooding exists, it becomes much more likely that microbes such as mold and bacteria might be inhaled by those present in the home. Also, these microbes are also more easily deposited in locations that might have otherwise remained uncontaminated.
Mold is not the only microbe that can grow in your home. Bacteria can also do the same thing. Similarly to mold, some types of bacteria are more toxic than others. Because of the possible risks from both types of microbes, it is always best to remove any materials in flood-damaged homes and replace them with new materials. Areas that are not damaged by flood water, but rather instead by moisture that contains possible pathogens can be dried and then protected with antimicrobial agents. SERVPRO of South Rancho Cucamonga professionals receive training from the IICRC in such matters. We understand that thoroughness when completing each job is crucial for protecting our customers' homes and their families.
To ensure that humidity levels are reduced to normal after a flood, we implement equipment hat not only eliminates a significant portion of the microbes present, but we also restore the house and its contents to a normal level of humidity. Moisture levels that are within normal ranges are not conducive to microbial growth. Heaters, air movers, open windows and doors, dehumidifiers, and air scrubbers help us accomplish this. When musty odors remain, we have the options of deodorizing with scented liquids placed in different sites in your home or using an ozone machine. Ozone bonds with particles in the air, making them inert. Ozone is what makes the air so fresh-smelling after a rain shower, and it can do the same thing in your home.
We at SERVPRO of South Rancho Cucamonga care about your home and your family. After flood damage, call us at (909) 758-0189. We can restore your home, so it is “Like it never even happened.”
Rancho Cucamonga Homeowners Listen as SERVPRO Talks About Mold Growth Conducive Conditions
A Leaky Window Frame Can Cause Mold Problems for Rancho Cucamonga Property Owners
Cold, rain, flooding and the rare possibility of snow contribute in different ways in making your Inland Empire home more susceptible to mold growth. A grasp of the ways mold gains a hold even in the dry cold of winter helps explain why you notice a musty, unpleasant scent or the staining and feathery or leathery-looking evidence of mold colonies. Let us help you with a winter mold infestation.
Mold damage in Rancho Cucamonga during any season is frustrating and often hard to manage without professional assistance. We train our crews to evaluate a mold scenario from the source of moisture to effective means of remediation with an open and curious mindset.
Mold breakouts can prove perplexing as the interior of our homes dry out while we use central heating, usually a deterrent to microbial growth. SERVPRO of South Rancho Cucamonga technicians look for sources of moisture the homeowner might overlook.
Common ways excessive moisture makes its way inside our homes include humidifiers and vaporizers intended to condition dry winter air. Mold spores are opportunistic and absorb any water, including water vapor emitting from one of these appliances. SERVPRO of South Rancho Cucamonga notes the humidity levels in the rooms affected by mold damage. If it edges past 60 percent, ambient humidity can fuel mold growth. Recommended levels are 30 to 50 percent humidity indoors to inhibit mold damage.
Ice and snow buildup on a roof also can lead to a perfect environment for mold growth. SERVPRO of South Rancho Cucamonga service calls for mold issues in the upper stories of a home during the winter always result in an inspection of outdoor gutters and downspouts and interior insulation and weather sealing. An ice dam, signaled by icicles, builds up when gutters clog with debris and its growth accelerates when the melt and freeze cycle continues because of inadequate insulation and heat leaks. If warm air leaks out the joints between the attic ceiling edges and the eaves and roofline any snow and ice in gutters melt and can invade into a home.
Molds can grow given moisture even if temperatures are low. SERVPRO of South Rancho Cucamonga often finds mold colonies moving from an attic down into living areas. Foundations with ice or snowpack can also admit moisture through cracks, encouraging mold growth in basements, walkouts, and other lower levels.
SERVPRO of South Rancho Cucamonga is ready to remediate mold issues relating to any causation. Give us a call at (909) 758-0189 to inspect and craft a mold abatement plan for your home.

There are 3 main options for testing
Surface Testing
This is done to look for evidence of actual current or past mold growth. The tester will use either a swab or a tape lift to obtain their sample. These tests can tell if the growth is from actual water damage and intrusion or if it is excessively humid in the home. Dark and discolored growth is not always microbial and would mean it is not from a water damage situation. When you see visual growth it is always important to get a sample of it as well as an air quality sample to ensure spores have not been released into the air.
Indoor air quality testing
This is done by taking numerous samples from within the inside of the home as well as a base line sample of the air quality on the outside of the home. These samples will be able to tell if you have hidden moisture leaks.
Indoor Air Quality with Comprehensive moisture evaluation.
This testing is done to provide a full scope picture of what is really going on in the home. It is able to locate sources of moisture that overtime could damage the property or become a health concern. Mold and moisture damage can drastically affect the value of a home over time. So it is important to stay on top of things and help prevent any major damage. Identifying the damage early can save you in the long run.

We see disasters everyday... and one of the saddest things is when people don't have rental insurance and loose everything. If you have questions about rental insurance you should speak to an agent for more information.
Top myths and the facts—about renters insurance:
The landlord's insurance covers your possessions. Don't count on it. Most landlords' insurance covers only the building and damages due to negligence.
Renters insurance is expensive. In this case, the numbers speak for themselves. The average renters policy costs just $12 a month for up to $30,000 in personal property coverage. That's solid coverage for less than the cost of a couple of cups of coffee a week.
Still concerned about price? Your insurer will work with you to find the combination of coverage and costs that suits your needs. You might even qualify for a discount by taking some simple home safety precautions or purchasing another policy, such as auto insurance, with the same insurer.
You don't need insurance if your stuff isn't expensive. Most renters' belongings cost more than they think.
Think that number is too high? Take a moment to add up the approximate cost of your computer, television, stereo, furniture, jewelry, and clothing. If a fire gutted your apartment tomorrow, would you have the cash to replace it all?
Renters insurance covers only your possessions. In fact, renters insurance covers much more than just your personal property: The average policy also includes up to $100,000 in liability coverage. That means in the event of a covered loss your insurer will help cover the costs if you're held responsible for injuring another person or damaging another person's property, including your landlord's.
Renters insurance isn't hard to get. You can research providers, compare quotes, and even find an agent online

When it comes to choosing a commercial cleaning service, many Rancho Cucamonga business owners or managers aren’t sure where to begin. A quick Google search “Cleaning Rancho Cucamonga” on the subject brings up so many options in many areas, which can be overwhelming. Thankfully, we know where to begin the search and how to choose the best commercial cleaning company for Rancho Cucamonga businesses.
Start With Recommendations
It always helps to start out by asking nearby businesses for their recommendations. Which commercial cleaning services do they use? Why do they recommend that company? Or are they looking for a new one as well? Sometimes you might be able to offer a discount for referring this Rancho Cucamonga commercial cleaning company that the business next door to you uses. After all, if they can clean your offices right after they finish your neighbor’s, that’s less traveling that they’ll have to do.
Know What Questions to Ask
Once you narrow down your list of commercial cleaning companies, you’ll have to call up their owners and ask some questions. These include how often they’ll be able to clean your offices, how much they generally charge per employee that they need to send out. If they offer any other type of specialty cleanings (which we’ll get into a bit more later). You also need to inquire about references. Can they provide 3 references. Naturally this query will be stemmed from your cleaning needs, Rancho Cucamonga. Speaking of which…
Understand What Type Of Cleaning You Need
There are several things to go over here. You need to know how often your Rancho Cucamonga offices will need to be cleaned, as well as which areas should be focused on. Do you want the company to do the bathrooms and empty the trash cans every day, but only wash or vacuum the hallway floors once a week? Make these specifications clear to the commercial cleaning companies before you hire them because you’ll need to find out if they can meet your expectations.
Inquire About Specialty Services If You Need Them
If your Rancho Cucamonga business requires special services, such as additional security measures or air duct cleaning, then you need to let your potential commercial cleaning companies know about them. They need to be able to produce an accurate quote for you, one that will help you decide whether or not you want to go with them.
Don’t Just Hire the Cheapest Commercial Cleaning Company
Speaking of quotes, you’ll probably end up with quite a few from different commercial cleaning companies. You don’t want to hire the cheapest one based on price alone necessarily. Instead, pick the commercial cleaning company in Rancho Cucamonga with the best overall package. They need to be able to meet all of your cleaning needs and be highly recommended by their current clients. This means that you might end up choosing a company that charges slightly more than the lowest bid. However, that difference in price will bring value worth paying for.
What You Can Do Before The Storm Damage Cleanup Team Arrives
Let’s set the scene – your home or business has become an object of storm damage. It’s damaged, but not so badly that you can’t move around it and tackle some minor cleaning tasks. What should you do? SERVPRO of South Rancho Cucamonga is on their way and will be able to handle all of the major issues, but you feel helpless at this moment. Well, there are some things that you can do.
Protect Your Furniture from Additional Damage
The number one thing that any storm damage cleanup expert will tell you is to protect your furniture from further damage. There’s an easy solution here – take some bricks, aluminum foil, plastic or wooden blocks and prop up all of your furniture on them. Place one block under each leg. This is great to do, especially if you have wooden legs on carpeting, as the water in the carpet will continue to soak into the furniture. SERVPRO of South Rancho Cucamonga will need less time drying out your affected area if the furniture is no longer directly on it.
Turn On the Air Conditioning and Any Fans
If it is safe to do so (and the weather is warm enough) turn on your air conditioning and any fans – either floor models or ceiling units. Air circulation will assist in dry out. Anything that the fans are pointing at will dry faster. Leave these fans on until SERVPRO of South Rancho Cucamonga arrives. REMEMBER: DO NOT USE ELECTRICAL OUTLETS AROUND AREAS WITH STANDING WATER.
Move All of Your Breakable Objects
Whether the damaged rooms of your home are filled with art, vases, collectible ceramics, or even model cars, you’ll need to move them into a different room. Choose a room that hasn’t been hit by the storm, or if there are none, pack them up well and place them in the garage or even in a neighbor’s house for safekeeping. You don’t want risk any further damage when cleanup crews arrive.
Remove As Much Excess Water As You Can
While you may not have access to the professional tools and equipment that SERVPRO of South Rancho Cucamonga carries, you can still do your best to soak up some of the water. Get some dry clothes and begin to blot the water out of your carpeting, wipe up puddles on tile or wood floors, and do your very best to get rid of that excess water. Don't leave books, magazines or other colored items on wet carpet or floors.
Don't use your household vacuum to remove water.

What Causes Odors in Homes?
Various factors cause a foul odor to develop in your residence or business. Many people have moved away from installing carpeting in high traffic areas to avoid buildup of dirt and smells. Sometimes it can be difficult to get rid of odors that develop over time, especially in high traffic areas. Not to mention when storms occur and cause the sewers to back up into your home or office. Other odors might be caused by stains or pet accidents that weren't properly cleaned up. Cat urine is notorious for being difficult to remove from carpets and even concrete. Food or other household products left unattended can develop smells over time as well. Smoking can also cause a home or office to have a foul odor over time. Many people don't realize how offensive odors develop suddenly in their homes, but the truth is that some of these smells evolve and go undetected for a long time, especially where smoking is concerned.

Every second counts during a fire. Fire experts agree, people have as little as two minutes to escape a burning home before it’s too late to get out.*
In a matter of moments, a small flame can become a major fire, making it critical to be prepared with an escape plan in place. A survey conducted by the American Red Cross shows only 26 percent of families have developed and practiced a home fire escape plan. Once a plan is developed, it is critical that everyone in the home understands the plan; the best way to do this is by practicing the escape plan at least twice a year. Increase your chance of surviving a fire by ensuring you have working smoke detectors in place, building an escape plan, and then practicing the escape plan. The following are a few steps to help you develop an emergency escape plan:
Draw a map of each level of your home and show all doors and windows. Find two ways to get out of each room. Make sure all doors and windows that lead outside open easily.
Consider escape ladders for sleeping areas on the second and third floors. Only purchase collapsible escape ladders evaluated by a recognized testing laboratory. Store them near the window where they will be used.
Choose an outside meeting place a safe distance from your home where everyone can meet after they’ve escaped. Make sure to mark the meeting location on your escape plan. Teach children how to escape on their own in case you cannot help them. Plan for everyone in your home with special considerations for elderly or disabled individuals. Practice your fire escape plan at night and during the daytime. SERVPRO of South Rancho Cucamonga wants you to stay safe and prepare now to ensure you are ready for any disaster. *Tips provided by American Red Cross and National Fire Protection Association

Water damage is a problem that most property owners dread. When it rains heavily or snow melts quickly, the risk of this type of damage increases. Water can cause thousands of dollars’ worth of damage by damaging wood furniture, upholstery, electronics, household appliances, and plumbing equipment. Water damage also increases the risk of mold growth, which is a very expensive problem to remedy. Hiring a water damage restoration company can make the cleanup process easier to handle, as these companies employ experienced workers who know the best ways to repair or replace damaged items and help with water damage cleanup.
Causes of Water Damage
There are several possible causes of water damage. Leaky dishwashers, clogged toilets, broken pipes, broken dishwasher hoses, overflowing washing machines, leaky roofs, plumbing leaks, and foundation cracks are just some of the possible causes of water damage in homes and businesses. Floods, heavy snow, and heavy rain are other possible causes of this type of damage and can lead to having water in basements. Too much water can lead to minor problems such as water in basement areas, or it can lead to the destruction of homes and businesses. Once a home or business sustains water damage, it is important to start the water damage cleanup immediately. Starting water damage cleanup as soon as possible increases the likelihood of saving water-soaked furniture, carpets, rugs, clothing, and other items.
Categories of Water Damage
Assessing the severity of the damage is important for determining what is needed to start water damage repair and water removal. There are several different categories assigned to water damage. Category 1 refers to clean water, or water that does not pose a threat to humans. Possible causes of this type of damage include broken appliances or sink overflows. Category 2 water is also called gray water. Broken toilets, broken sump pumps, and seepage may cause category 2 water damage. Category 3 water is known as black water. The possible sources of black water damage include sewage problems and contamination of standing water.
There are also several classes of water damage. The class of damage is important when assessing water damage repair options. Class 1 is the least harmful form of damage. Materials absorb very little of the water from this type of damage. Water damage repair is the easiest in this type of situation. Class 2 has a fast rate of evaporation, which means that carpets and cushions may be damaged. Water damage repair is more difficult when it involves class 2 damage. Class 3 has the fastest rate of evaporation. In this case, the water may come from broken sprinklers or other overhead sources, soaking the walls and furniture. Class 4 requires special water restoration and water removal procedures. This type of damage may affect hardwood floors, plaster, and concrete.
Restoration Process
The water restoration process is an important one. Using the right procedures and materials can help people save cherished belongings and even prevent their homes from being condemned. Water restoration companies specialize in mitigating the effects of water, but the success for water damage restoration depends on the severity of the damage and the amount of water that caused the damage. Water restoration companies may hire outside experts such as SERVPRO of South Rancho Cucamonga to assess a property and determine a water restoration and water removal plan. SERVPRO of South Rancho Cucamonga uses high-tech equipment and well-documented procedures to control water damage. Water in basement areas may only require a short cleanup process, but water in other areas of a property will require extensive remediation.
SERVPRO of South Rancho Cucamonga is an IICRC firm. The Institute of Inspection, Cleaning and Restoration Certification (IICRC) creates the standards for the restoration industry and provides training and certification to restoration companies. IICRC Certified Firms have the right to display the IICRC Certified Logo.
IICRC Certified Firms must
• Present accurate information to consumers and conduct business with honesty and integrity.
• Require a technician on all jobs who has been formally trained and passed all required tests.
• Require a continuing education program to keep technicians up-to-date on the latest changes in the industry.
• Maintain liability insurance to protect all parties in the event of an accident.
• Maintain a written complaint policy and agree to Better Business Bureau or similar arbitration to resolve disputes, and accept the conclusions and recommendations of arbitration.
The IICRC Develops The Standards For The Restoration Industry
The IICRC has been the driving force in establishing the main industry standards and reference guides for professional carpet cleaning, water damage restoration and mold remediation. These IICRC standards take years to develop and require the coordination of experts in the field: manufacturers, industry organizations, insurance professionals, training schools, contractors, and public health professionals.
Every five years, the standards are reviewed and updated. The water damage restoration field changes rapidly with advancements in technology and science, and therefore the standards must evolve to keep pace.

They're sometimes hard to recognize, but it doesn't take much of a leak to cause a gas fire. These home disasters are all too common. Fortunately, you can avoid a fire or worse by recognizing signs of a leak:
A hissing or whistling sound near the line
The smell of rotten eggs or sulfur
Bubbles in the water
Dead houseplants
Visible dust near the gas line
Damage to the gas pipe
Family members or pets may show signs of a natural gas leak, as well. These may include nosebleeds, reduced appetites, nausea, mood changes, irritation to the eyes and throats, disorientation, and breathing difficulties.
Keep Your Family and Home Safe
Avoid a gas fire or explosion in your Rancho Cucamonga, CA home by following these top tips:
1. Check Gas Stoves
If you have a gas stove, the dials may have been turned on or left on accidentally. If you're confident it's safe to remain in your home, move to the stove and turn off any flames.
2. Do Not Flip Switches
Simply flipping the light switch to on or off could make a spark that causes a gas explosion. Instead, use a flashlight for any other actions you take in the house. Don't use the phone inside the house, either. In fact, don't use lighters, candles, or anything else that could ignite.
3. Ventilate the Home
Open all the windows and doors, so fresh air can come in and gas will move out of the house. Don't worry about taking any steps further than this. Instead, wait to contact emergency or fire remediation professionals when you and your family are safely outside.
4. Go Outside
Get everyone outside and go across the street. From this safe distance, call 911 or the appropriate authorities.
Learn as much as you can about what may cause a gas fire and how to avoid them to keep your family safe. Teach your family about natural gas and how to stay safe if they suspect a gas leak.

Mold
Contaminants in the water
Structural problems
Building materials
Carpets and carpet padding

Keep a fully stocked First Aid kit available in your Rancho Cucamonga business
Keeping your employees and customers safe can be an important part of being a responsible Rancho Cucamonga, CA business owner. Posting warning signs in dangerous areas and following state and federal safety protocol can help keep your property safe. However, if an accident should occur, being prepared with a stocked first aid kit might mean the difference between being able to help an injured individual and having to wait until help arrives. If you are creating a kit for the first time, there are several items you may want to include.
1. A Variety Pack of Bandages
Cuts and scrapes may heal more quickly when they are covered with a sterile bandage, and covering a wound may also reduce the risk of infection by preventing dirt and bacteria from contaminating injured skin. However, since it can be difficult to predict the size of a wound, it is a good idea to keep a variety pack of bandages, all in different sizes and shapes, in your medical kit. Consider keeping flexible bandages on hand to cover scrapes on knees and elbows that might be incurred in a fall.
2. Large Gauze Pads
Gauze pads can be effective in covering wounds and stemming the flow of blood from a wound. Having large pads on hand means you can fold them for thickness if necessary. It is wise to keep several large sheets of gauze, up to eight inches long and ten inches wide, in your first aid kit.
3. A Complete Directory of Emergency Numbers
You may have a list of emergency numbers posted in your office or in the breakroom. However, keeping a backup directory in your emergency kit can help you contact a storm damage cleanup service and other emergency repair numbers if your business floods and you cannot access the posted list. Consider laminating your backup list to protect it from water and staining.
Keeping a fully-stocked first aid kit available at your Rancho Cucamonga, CA business can help you act quickly in case of an injury. While emergencies are often unpredictable, being prepared may give you peace of mind that you can handle them if they should arise.
Unfortunately, mold growth is a common issue with homeowners especially after untreated water damage. Various types of mold, including black mold, can result in a costly cleanup. However, it can be helpful for homeowners to learn about mold growth, so the issue can be prevented if possible.
What Causes Mold to Grow?
In your home, there are various reasons mold may grow. However, the following issues make mold growth much more likely to occur.
A moisture problem in the home due to high levels of humidity or other factors
Locations in the home that are not dry for long periods of time
Access to organic materials, which can include a variety of common surfaces in the home
Why Does Mold Reappear?
There are some areas in your home that are more likely to experience mold growth than others. However, when mold keeps appearing in one area after it has been removed, this could be a sign of a problem. If an area does not remain dry and is consistently damp, this can allow mold to grow again in the same area. If mold is not properly removed in a timely manner, black mold may begin to grow in the area.
Can Mold Be Prevented?
Every situation is different, but there are several ways to prevent mold from growing in your home. Since mold thrives in damp environments, keeping your home dry is often important. In areas that experience high levels of humidity, such as bathrooms or kitchens, it can be helpful to make sure there is no standing water after appliances have been used. If you do notice standing water, quickly cleaning it can stop mold growth.
Learning more about mold can help you prevent black mold and other types of mold from causing damage to your home. If your home has been affected by mold and you need assistance with the mold cleanup process, consider contacting mold remediation professionals.

When your commercial building floods, your first concern is finding a professional team in Rancho Cucamonga, CA, that can help you remedy the situation. You might not be thinking about finding a certified team. Instead, you simply want a team that can get the job done quickly. You know you have to act quickly, but it may still be beneficial for you to find a certified remediation team for your water cleanup.
1. Knowledgeable: Anyone who is certified by the Institute of Inspection Cleaning and Restoration Certification has to pass a rigorous set of exams. This means you can trust your professional to know how to handle even the most complex flooding situation. Your team's certification may make them better suited to handle content cleaning, mold removal, and other secondary tasks related to cleaning up after a broken pipe. 2. Ethical: The certification also ensures your team adheres to a certain code of ethics. This code may ensure no corners are cut when doing a water cleanup. If a team cuts corners, your restoration may not be as complete as you thought it was. 3. Insured: Before a company can receive the certification from the IICRC, the businesses must prove that it is fully and properly insured. Working with an insured business benefits you because it relieves some of the financial risks of having workers in your building. Flooding can weaken structures or cause mold growth, but an insured business takes the responsibility for these risks. 4. Licensed: Some restoration businesses follow storms across the country. These companies may not have local or state licenses, which means they don't know the local codes. A certified business, however, must meet all license requirements.
When you need to start the water cleanup process in your commercial building, you want to know that the team you call can get the job done correctly the first time around. If you choose to hire a certified company, you can trust that the experts know what they're doing.

Southern California has been in much need of some good rain. We can all agree that we have surely gotten it this year too. But what comes with a good storm is flooding, mold, and other home damage.
SERVPRO is here to help!
When storm waters cause flooding in your Rancho Cucamonga home or business, the cleanup process may take some time. Not only do you likely need to hire a water removal service, but you may also have to repair secondary damage after the water has been cleaned up. While additional damage is a possibility, mold growth does not have to be inevitable after a storm causes water to permeate your house. You can avoid it by doing the following:
Managing excessive humidity
Removing standing water
Reacting quickly to the flood
To better understand if your home may be affected by mold, you need to know what contributes to its growth. The type of water, time it takes to start cleaning and thoroughness of the cleanup job each plays a part in whether or not mold will start to grow.
Dirty Water
If your home is flooded after a storm, chances are the water came from an overflowing river or backed-up sewer system. These water sources are commonly contaminated with spores and bacteria. Water from a dirty source can lead to mold growth quicker than flooding from a broken water supply line.
Lengthy Wait Time
If water sits in your home for a long period of time, the risk that mold will begin to grow is increased. Stagnant water and high humidity create the ideal environment for mold to develop. Quickly calling in a cleaning crew is always a good idea when you find standing water in your home.
Partial Cleanup
Completely removing the effects of flooding is important. Any residual dampness or humidity can encourage mold growth. Some homeowners try to take on the cleanup on their own, but they don't always know how to totally remove water damage. This partial cleanup makes it possible for spores to spread throughout a home.
Mold doesn't have to grow after a flood. Addressing flood cleanup and mold removal as soon as possible can help reduce the damage done by a storm.

Smoke damage tips:
Close all windows and doors to limit what can enter your home.

Water Damage and Restoration in Rancho Cucamonga (Inland Empire)
Water damage can happen in your home at any time. Here at SERVPRO of South Rancho Cucamonga we are ready to assist you with your restoration needs. There are a couple tips that can assist you in noticing and limiting water damage in your home.
Identifying the source
Sometimes the source of water is easy to find, such as an overflowing washing machine. However, sometimes the issue is a pipe in the wall or a slow leak under the sink. As a home owner it is always important to be vigilant. Some signs of water damage are: standing water, discoloration, musty odors, and in some cases mold. Knowing where the water is will assist you in where to shut off the water. Most fixtures in your home have angle stops that will stop the flow of water to the appliance or plumbing fixture. Some homes have a water shut-off valve in the home and most homes have a main shut-off valve commonly by the street. It is important that whatever the source of the water is repaired or replaced by a professional.
Minimizing the damage
While we cannot plan for when a water loss will happen we can control what happens after. Remember that most water losses happen in the Kitchens, Bathrooms, Laundry Rooms, and Water Heater Areas. Water will take the path of least resistance. Shut off the source of water from its source or from the main to your home. If you are able to, move contents such as furniture away from the water or put them on blocks. If safe, or if you want to remove as much of the standing water as possible using rags, towels, or a wet/dry vacuum. Keep note that water can travel underneath floorings such as solid wood and wood laminate as you step on it, so try to limit the traffic in that area. The next step is to call your insurance company and a water restoration company such as us so that we can inspect the damage and come up with and execute a plan to dry your home. It is always better to have a restoration company come out as soon as possible to start the drying process to avoid secondary damages such as mold.
Time Frame
Remember, minimizing the damage will not stop the damage. Materials such as wood and drywall will absorb damage. Additionally, avoiding secondary damages depend on the source of water as well as time taken to remove said water from the affected materials. Water can wick up drywall at a rate of 1-2 inches per hour and wood 1/2 inch an hour. Given that we are able to get to your home and start work promptly our goal is to minimize any damage and necessary demolition in your home.
